Central MN artist doing paint marathon for charity

COLD SPRING – An artist from central Minnesota embarks on an ambitious project.

Dan Mondloch plans to paint three paintings per day during the 30 days of November for a total of 90 paintings. All of them will be outdoors, which means outdoors, and they will all be footage of scenes from central Minnesota.

He will sell the 5X7 paintings for $ 150 of which $ 50 will go to charity, and the 8X10 paintings will sell for $ 300 of which $ 100 will be donated to a local charity. He says he’s still working on the details of specific charities and is open to suggestions.

Mondloch says the job will be finished and ready to hang on your wall.

So they will be on cradled panels, which just means they have a border so you can hang them directly on the wall, you don’t need to frame them. They will be oil paintings and watercolors, the watercolors that I will spray with a varnish so that they are protected. It’s a beautiful, accessible way to display art.

For the first 24 hours after they end they will be available exclusively to Mondloch newsletter subscribers, then after that they will be more widely accessible and also on display at the Bad Habit Brewing Company in St. Joseph.

Mondloch says that artists will do this type of marathon every now and then to generate interest and also to grow as an artist.

This project is partially funded by a grant from the Central MN Arts Board.

There is also a new children’s book now available with illustrations by Mondloch. He teamed up with his friend Liz fiedler who wrote the book after the unexpected death of her husband. She wrote it to help him through the grieving process.

Mondloch says the partnership was born out of a gesture of support.

I think I painted 14 and then had done four before. When her husband Josh passed away, I looked at her Instagram account and painted these little 5X5 black and white pictures for her just as a gift and just gave them to her.

Fiedler owns a Sunny Mary Meadow cut flower business, so all of the images in the book are inspired by this.

The self-published book is the first for both. You can buy it from Barnes & Noble here in town and also on Target.com.
