The pieces they build are inspired by simple and natural shapes translated into the art of stone carving. “The spiral shape found in Fibonacci sequence and sacred geometry is by far the most intriguing,” Zettl and Kunert say of the natural designs that inspire them.
“This shape is found everywhere in nature, how a flower forms its petals, pine cones, seashells, even our DNA.” They also build stone furniture the same way, but the shape is at its best in a big old wall.
Ancient stone art
The stone they use comes mainly from places like the Pacific Northwest, British Columbia, Washington, Idaho and Oregon, although they also come from Madagascar, Brazil, Italy. and Australia. All this variety gives them all kinds of shapes and colors to create their different patterns.
